After a tough 2020 with COVID cancellations Australia wide, it was great to see this event go ahead for it’s second year. Leading up to the event we had no idea what was going to happen, but it turned our perfect with great weather and plenty of fish caught.
Pre-Fishing Nagambie Before the Comp | Monday to Thursday
I left home early on Monday morning with the plan of fishing Nagambie for a few days in the lead up to the event. From this time on the water, I put together a pre-comp report for you (SF Members) to give you the upper hand in the competition.
We got onto some good fish, but they took a lot of work. The fish were shut down on the Monday and Tuesday as we fished through the rain. The weather started to clear and the fishing picked up towards Thursday.
The Main Event | Friday to Sunday
The weather turned it on for the event days with clear skies, warm days and some patchy clouds. Plenty of anglers caught fish while other did still struggle. There was a lot of boat traffic on the water which made the fishing tough at times, but those who worked the fish out got onto some good numbers.
The Golden Perch fed the best throughout the event with big numbers being caught, especially when anglers found them in big schools. Many of the larger cod were caught early on each day with surface lures, this was a great technique which tempted those larger fish. A 91cm had the lead at the end of day one and it was caught on the surface.
The fishing was tougher on the second day but bait and trolling really stood out as the go-to technique. There were heaps of smaller cod caught under the 55cm range and very few caught over 70cm.
The expo, entertainment, food and festival vibe were great back at the main hub. I believe this is what makes the event! Getting to meet and chat to keen anglers was a highlight for myself.
The winner, Graham caught a 100.7cm cod and took out the winning prize at $80K! So many great prizes for so many anglers and I was blown away by the amount of quality random prizes and giveaways.
If you missed out this year… make sure you get in early next year and grab a ticket! It’s a great event and well worth coming to. If you going in 2022, I’ll see you there!
